An elected DuttonLittleproud Coalition Government will provide $350,000 to support the Lockington community to expand accommodation in Waterwheel Court.

Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell said this funding would help address the lengthy waiting list for community-based housing in the district. “Lockington Community Care is a great success story and an example of what small communities can achieve,” Mr Birrell said.

“The community received a small grant in 1991 to build two units to provide much-needed housing for the elderly and disadvantaged in the community, they built four units.”

“The community has now built 16units in total, leveraging any funding to provide maximum benefit, which is why the Nationals want to continue to invest in this community project.

Lockington Community Care Committee Inc. is a registered charity, and all the committee members are volunteers.

The units provide much-needed accommodation for retired locals who enjoy the social atmosphere and interaction with other residents which assists with preventing social isolation.

“People who have lived in a small community all their lives deserve the opportunity to age in place, and Lockington Community Care provides that opportunity,” Mr Birrell said.

“What has been achieved to date is remarkable for such a small community, but there is a waiting list for accommodation, so more needs to be done.

This commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country Back on Track.

A Coalition government will unlock up to 500,000 new homes by investing $5 billion to fund essential infrastructure like water, power, and sewerage at housing development sites. We will allow Australians to access up to $50,000 from their super to buy their first home.
