1. Entry
The 2027 Naturally Nicholls Calendar Competition is run by the Office of Sam Birrell MP. Entry is free and open to residents of, and visitors photographing within, the Nicholls electorate. Entrants under 18 must have a parent or guardian complete the entry on their behalf.
2. How to enter
Entries must be submitted online at sambirrell.com.au with the entrant’s name, contact details, image location and a title for each photo. Printed photos, emailed photos, USBs, Dropbox links and external file links will not be accepted.
Entries close at 10:00pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026. Late entries cannot be considered. A maximum of two entries per person is permitted.
3. Photo requirements
Photos must be taken within the Nicholls electorate and reflect this year’s theme, Naturally Nicholls. Photos must be in landscape orientation, in colour or black and white and be the entrant’s own original work.
The minimum file size is 2MB and the maximum file size is 10MB. Images selected for the calendar must be available at a resolution suitable for print. Light editing is permitted. Photos taken on mobile phones are accepted.
AI-generated images are not accepted. Entries must be based on an original photo taken by the entrant within the Nicholls electorate.
4. Photo ownership
By entering, the entrant confirms that the submitted photo is their own original work, that they took the photo and that they hold the rights to submit it for this competition. Photos must not infringe the copyright, intellectual property or rights of any third party.
5. People in photos
Where a person is clearly identifiable in a photo, the entrant confirms that person has consented to being photographed and to their image being used in accordance with these terms and conditions, including in the calendar, in print advertising, in newspapers, in video content and on social media.
Where the identifiable person is under 18, a parent or guardian must have given this consent on their behalf. By entering, the entrant accepts responsibility for obtaining and holding this consent.
6. Copyright and licence
Entrants retain copyright in their photos. By entering, the entrant grants the Office of Sam Birrell MP a non-exclusive licence to reproduce, publish, share and use entered photos for the following purposes, with photo credit given where practical:
- printing in the 2027 Naturally Nicholls Calendar;
- use in print advertising and editorial promoting the calendar, including in local newspapers;
- use by third parties, including newspapers, media outlets and publishers, for printed, digital, video and social media coverage relating to the calendar competition;
- use on social media accounts associated with Sam Birrell MP;
- use in video content, online content and other digital promotional material;
- use in promotional material for future editions of the Naturally Nicholls Calendar.
7. Image adjustments
The office reserves the right to make minor technical adjustments to submitted photos where necessary for print or digital use, including adjustments to exposure, brightness, contrast, colour balance and cropping to fit calendar page sizes. These adjustments will not materially alter the creative intent of the original photo.
8. Judging and prizes
Winning photos are selected by judging arranged by the office and the judges’ decision is final. Prizes are gift cards of $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place. Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash. Winners will be contacted directly and may be announced publicly.
9. Privacy
Personal information collected with entries is used to administer the competition, credit published photos and contact winners.
