Welcome Kilmore to the Electorate of Nicholls!
Hi, I’m Sam Birrell, the Federal Member
for Nicholls. I grew up on a property between Murchison
and Toolamba, on the banks of the
Goulburn River. I finished my secondary schooling in Kilmore, as a boarder at Assumption College from year 9 to year 12.
Before being elected to the Federal Parliament in 2022, I studied agricultural science and worked as an agronomist until I became the CEO of the Committee for Greater Shepparton; achieving significant infrastructure improvements for the Goulburn Valley.
“I entered politics because I wanted to see regional communities thrive and I’m thrilled that the township of Kilmore is coming into the electorate of Nicholls.”
I see Kilmore as a strong and proud regional town. It is growing fast and needs infrastructure that supports that growth, but I am hearing locals say it needs to retain its regional identity and not become a northern suburb of Melbourne.
The Nationals back regional communities –
we have done it across Nicholls and
I want to ensure that investment
happens in Kilmore.
I’ve been pounding the pavement in Kilmore in recent weeks and I’ve met with a number of locals and business owners.
I’ve also been meeting with community groups including the Kilmore Men’s Shed and I trained with the Kilmore Football and Netball Club – I’ve made it my mission over the past three years to train with all 45 football and netball clubs that cover Nicholls. Training with your club means I get to hear what matters to you.
“
What future are we setting up for those born in the regions now?
We owe it to them to invest, to innovate, to work hard and smart, to ensure opportunity is there for all, as we adapt to a changing future.”
